At Waltham Leas Primary Academy, we are committed to creating an environment where every pupil can flourish and achieve their full potential. We believe that pupils are entitled to benefit from education of the highest quality, particularly grounded within phonics, reading, writing and spelling.

Our curriculum is designed so the children develop a love of reading through the promotion of high-quality texts and authors.  We also encourage children to read both in school and at home through the use of reading competitions, celebrating Star Readers within celebration assemblies, promoting new and challenging texts through our Bookflix library, as well as providing an opportunity to share and swap books of interest. We are working towards our Lincolnshire Silver Reading Pledge to develop our children's love of reading. 

Our children also develop confidence in communicating fluently and legibly in writing, through the teaching of a range of text types and genres. We also strive to produce  confident and articulate speakers who can express themselves with clarity. We use Talk for Learning sessions to enable children to take turns and learn to debate and listen well. 

Within school we design our teaching experiences around a broad and balanced curriculum so that every child can fulfil these aims, aided by the teaching of quality texts. We aim to provide numerous opportunities across a wide range of subjects to allow children to practise, build on and perfect their writing and reading skills.
